AWBP Trust and its journey of spreading awareness regarding animal welfare has climbed another step. The Managing Director of the NGO and author of the book – The Journey of Bunty and Chinku, Lakshman Molleti, was invited as a guest speaker to The Knowledge Bus Global School, Mohali, Punjab. The school’s principal, Ms Anisha Sahapathi, welcomed Lakshman as a guest to the annual day function organised by the school on 25th November 2023.
AWBP has taken the initiative to impart continuous education to children concerning animal welfare. As part of this, in June ’23 the book “The Journey of Bunty and Chinku” was delivered to the school. Several book copies were placed in the library, making them accessible to the students. After reading the book, the school organised an inter-school competition, taking the storybook as one of their topics. Many schools in Punjab became aware of the book’s contents and ordered our book for them. The book received good feedback, inspiring and motivating many young minds.
The guest visit to the school has been fruitful. The children were enthusiastic to meet and discuss the book and their queries about animal welfare. On 24th November, in a brief interaction, the students discussed their engagement with animal welfare. Some students also discussed their vegan lifestyle.
We interacted with the students from 3rd to 10th standards on the book’s message. We also presented educational content regarding animal welfare to the teachers, staff, and the principal.
The annual day function was celebrated with great enthusiasm. It was themed 
“Chayanam” meaning Choice. The theme highlighted the importance of making the right choices in life and abiding by them. The students’ performances were extraordinary, highlighting the essence of the theme. Later, the school felicitated Mr Lakshman, and he delivered a speech on the importance of inculcating the ideas of animal welfare in young minds. He urged parents and teachers to provide a conducive environment for children to learn about animal welfare and practice it as part of continuous education.
Some interested parents and teachers interacted with the author after the event regarding the book and animal welfare in general.
On 26th November, before leaving, a final visit was made to the school to exchange a few items as a token of remembrance. There were discussions to conduct many more events and continue providing animal welfare. In all, the visit was fruitful, which led to great networking. We connected with more schools in Punjab. Furthermore, plans to start the water bowl initiative in Punjab are in progress. We aim to start the initiative by the end of December.
