Since 2021, a water bowl initiative program has been underway in Pune, aiming to provide essential hydration to community animals. Despite the program’s existence, organizing on-field events to raise awareness and distribute water bowls has proven challenging due to a lack of volunteers equipped to lead the team according to Animals Water Bowl Project ( AWBP ) guidelines. However, a recent event in Hadapsar, Pune, marked a significant step forward in overcoming these obstacles.
In March, the organizers reached out to Swapnil Ambep, seeking a dedicated volunteer to lead the initiative’s inaugural on-field event. After extensive discussions and sharing of expectations, Swapnil graciously accepted the responsibility, provided proper guidelines were provided. His quick understanding of AWBP principles and guidelines on animal welfare made him the ideal candidate for the lead role.
With Swapnil’s leadership secured, plans were set in motion for an event on April 6th, from 7am to 9am. Swapnil’s meticulous planning included selecting the venue, LOHIYA PARK, after careful consideration and securing permissions well in advance to avoid any last-minute complications. Alongside logistical preparations, a team of dedicated individuals, including Swapnil Ambed, Bhagyashree, Amit Morey, Ayushee, and Mangesh, was assembled to assist in the event.
As the event kicked off at 7 AM on April 6th, Swapnil led the team in setting up educational posters, visiting cards, educational book, bookmarks, and water bowls on display at the stall. Each team member was assigned specific tasks, ensuring smooth coordination throughout the event. Despite a slow start, the team’s efforts soon garnered attention from park visitors, who expressed interest in learning more about the initiative.
Team members actively engaged with visitors, educating them on animal welfare and the importance of providing water to community animals. The response was overwhelmingly positive, with many individuals showing appreciation and expressing interest in collecting water bowls for their neighborhoods. Throughout the event, visitors were also informed about the eight rules governing water bowl usage to ensure responsible stewardship.
By the event’s conclusion at 9 AM, a total of 29 water bowls had been distributed, with the team dedicating a collective 2 hours to the cause. Interactions with 50 park visitors resulted in an estimated 250 animals benefiting from the initiative.

The success of the event would not have been possible without the dedication and leadership of Swapnil Ambep, who effectively guided the team in accordance with AWBP guidelines. The contributions of team members Swapnil Ambed, Bhagyashree, Amit Morey, Ayushee, and Mangesh are also acknowledged and appreciated.
As the AWBP Trust extends its gratitude to all involved, the event serves as a reminder of the collective responsibility we share in caring for our community animals. Together, let us continue to make strides in ensuring their well-being and promoting compassion for all living beings.
