The University of Hyderabad has a beautiful sprawling campus spread across 2500 acres within a lush green forest cover in the city, with varied flora and fauna consisting of various animal species, both domesticated and wild animals that roam freely across the forest land within the campus.
The campus management is open-minded towards the animals; hence there are no restrictions for the animal movements. The students were kind-hearted; therefore, they supported the animals on the campus in their capacity during their stay. They wanted to help these animals; they heard about the AWBP TRUST project and water-bowl activities through someone and reached out to us.
Hence, they took responsibility and initiative into their own hands and formed an internal student group to source and provide water bowls to support many animals on the campus. AWBP Trust felt happy about the students’ commitment towards animals and decided to visit the campus for the first time and directly hand over the water bowls to the students. We did coordinate with the students who have signed up and submitted a form for the water-bowl request through our website.
Hence, we created a separate WhatsApp group for the students and assigned a volunteer
from their campus to coordinate the distribution of water bowls. We completed the coordination activity before our campus visit. AWBP Team Pradeep Gurrala, Lakshman Molleti arrived at the campus at sharp 9 AM. The campus students interacted with our trust members about the project and activities related to animal welfare.
Afterwards, we distributed the water bowls to the students Preeti, Manasa, Mounika, Vaishnavi, Pooja, Aman, Shameer, Rahul, Joseph. They allowed us into the campus to see where they kept our water bowls for the animals. We have seen the places where they keep the water bowls, and the students have chosen to keep water bowls in the north and south locations on campus.
We had a chance to interact with the security officers on the campus, and they were kind enough to support our water-bowl initiative for the animals. We informed the students and security that if they need more water-bowls to help many animals, they can freely reach us without any hesitation. They admired the positive initiative of our activity.

Our experience with University of Hyderabad students turned out to be an inspirational example for institutions to emulate. Seeing this humane initiative, we are hopeful that other colleges, institutions, and corporate conduct the water-bowl installations for the animals’ benefit on their campus and make an active contribution towards improving the lives of the animals.
